Over the weekend, Montserrado County District #9 Representative, Munah E. Pelham presided over a two-day reconciliation football tournament in District #9 to bring together residents of the District and those that politically canvassed against her during last year's general and presidential election in which she emerged Victorious. Her aim is to reconcile everybody regardless of political status.
The peaceful reconciliation program began with a parade from 12th Street to Don Dosco Center in New Matadi, where an indoor program with eleven out of the twelve candidates that took part in the elections unanimously appreciated the adventure undertaken by the Representative and praised her for being farsighted. They described as first of its kind, and also timely for the good of all citizens of the District and Liberia.
The Tournament brought together students, youths of different organizations, with teams taking part in reconciliation and Peace-building tournament that began last Saturday, November 24, and ended on Sunday, November 25, 2012 in the District.
Representative Pelham, addressing the occasion under the theme “Let Us Reconcile,” noting that by coming together in unity for the common good of the District and development, despite our political differences, she is indeed grateful to God for the opportunity and favor he had bestowed upon all members and former candidates as well as student communities, religious groupings for being very supportive of the peace and reconciliation tournament.
Speaking further, she asserted that whether it was Munah E. Pelham, what the former candidates displayed at the sporting tournament actually indicated to her that a true example of democracy, leadership that the people of the District has yearned for has finally reached the people and the time is ripped for everybody to play his or her part.
“Reconciliation is not about a day event, rather it is a perpetual responsibility for each and everyone within the District to learn as well as follow the giant step taken by her and her colleagues on grounds that during the electoral process, there were some miss feelings from the former candidates towards the others, but she said it was politics, the time has passed, what is next is genuine reconciliation for the good of the people within the District” Representative Munah emphasized.
She added that her objective is to come as a common servant to speak to the hearts of her colleagues, noting that the fact that she won does not necessarily mean she is the only qualified person but it was the decision of the District and it is incumbent upon her to bring true reconciliation that can heal the differences and bound their thoughts for success of the people of the District.
Hon. Pelham urged the youth, elders, students, Christians and Muslim communities, whether against her or in favor to learn from the reconciliation messages and reconcile with each other in order to move the District forward in a positive direction where everyone will benefit immensely.
