The President of the Liberia Business Association Mr. Maxwell Kemayan has renewed his call for the restoration of electricity in Liberia, in order to help improve Liberia's industrial sector, adding that he is renewing his call to the LEC management.
Speaking to reporters during the Africa Industrialization world Standards Day celebrations recently, Mr. Kemayan said there is a need for the Liberia Electricity Corporation [LEC] to take steps in the process improving electricity in the country.
He said the lack of electricity in any industrialization sector is a risk to the country's economic growth. He added that 54% of Liberia owned Businesses operate with electricity as the cost of fuel oil and gasoline is too.
How can we promote industrialization in Liberia when we have the issue of electricity as a serious challenge? There is a need for the Government of Liberia and the ministry of Lands, Mines and Energy to step up its gains meant to promote industrialization in Liberia; as with this, we will have more investors coming into Liberia.
He said further that: “when we first took over the Liberia Business Association, the issue of the rehabilitation of the Hydro power was the greatest challenge; but now the Government has put it under control. He added that it is true the LEC has been making efforts, although there are still some gaps. Power from electricity is an indispensible element to industrialization,” he concluded.
