A workshop expected to mentor twenty five journalists from eight media institutions began Monday, November 26, 2012, with the aim of enlightening the participants on the danger involved in reporting gender imbalance and insensitive story.
Speaking during the first day of the workshop at the YMCA Headquarter on Crown Hill, the facilitator and Country  Director of Journalist  for Human Right in Sierra Leone, Madam Yeama Thomson posted questions to each participants about  what each person is bringing to the workshop and what is expected to be achieved after the program
Giving answers to the questions, participants stated what they expect to achieve form the workshop and their desires to become trained journalists in Liberia, but fell short to give the skills needed to bring  or contribute to the weeklong training.
During the introduction of the workshop, Madam Thomson said that the issue of Journalism and development with respect to gender must not be taken out of context to mean addressing marginalized women plight. “Even though women are the most victimized when gender imbalance is reported,“ she asserted.
She urged the participants to focus on how gender issue will be handled so that imbalances and insensitive reporting can be avoided.
She added that in countries where women are marginalized, Gender Ministry serves as the advocator to address the plights of the women.
She stressed that women are the most vulnerable when it comes to discrimination, under representation and suppression. They are lowly ranked by their male counterpart.
To prove these points, participants were asked what position men and women are perceived to serve? Various answers received from participants proved the case.
Interestingly the entire day's activities were summed up in two dramas produced by the participants at the close of day one. Author's contact: Cell 0886900393  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
