Three officials of the Liberia United for Sustainable Development (LUSD) have disclosed that plans have been finalized to plant cassava on its 25 acres of farm land located in Kakata, Margibi County.
The leadership of the Independent Mano River Transport Union of Liberia (IMRTUL) has expressed thanks and appreciation to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for accepting and recognizing the IMRTUL operations in the country.
The Interim Management Team of Radio Cape Mount, in Grand Cape Mount County has shut down the station for what it referred to as lack of support to the station. The team added that the station will remain closed until authorities of the county address reasons for its abrupt closure.
In an interview with this paper on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, the head of the Interim Management Team and Political Officer of Grand cape Mount County, Mr. Andrew Massalay said. “I have closed down the station because the authorities of the county have refused to provide fuel and other logistics to run the station.”
Mr. Massalay furthered that since his appointment by the Board of the Station, there has been little or no support from the county authorities. He indicated that individual support to the station over the years have partially maintained the station, but are no longer forthcoming.
According to Mr. Massalay, “of late individual support to the station has not been forth-coming and there is the need for the station to be supported from the proceeds form the County Development Fund.” He added that they need ten gallons of fuel to run the station on a daily basic because proceeds collect from announcements are not enough to purchase fuel.
When contacted, the Senior Senator of the County, Abel Massalay confirmed that he has stopped his support to the station. He said the county is contemplating on giving a lump-sum amount from the county coffers to the two radio stations of the county to help mitigate the situation.
Grand Cape Mount County Superintendent, Mohammad Paasewe also disclosed that plans are on the way to provide permanent support to radio stations in the county. He added that his administration believes in free press and will do nothing to deny citizens of the county the right to news and information.
In a related development, the County Council of Grand Cape Mount County will convene its regular meeting in Sinji, Garwula District this Thursday and Friday, December 6 and 7 2012. During the meeting, it is expected that the Council will pass on agreements to allot money for the operation of the two radio stations (Radio Cape Mount and Piso).
