Police Chief Chris MassaquoiThe Liberia National Police (LNP) has denied reports of a fist fight between the Deputy Inspector General of Police for Operations Col. Abraham Kromah, and Chief of Public Safety Meekie Gray.

The Media Coordinator at the LNP Sam Collins said the report by some media institutions is “inaccurate and misleading,” adding, the LNP would like to stress that such unprofessional act did not take place at the Liberia National Police.”

Collins described the report as “imaginary,” as both the Deputy Inspector General of Police for Operations and Commissioner Gray are professional officers with good reputation, and will never get involve in acts that will injure the reputation of the LNP.

Mr. Collins said with the paramilitary environment and the level of coordination among the senior management of the LNP, it was impossible for any junior officer to challenge the authority of his or her boss and called on the media to conduct proper research before reporting.

The LNP Media Coordinator said the police will not be deterred in the execution of its duty, and called on the media to make use of its Public Affairs Department if it has any doubt on a particular matter instead of quoting unreliable sources.

Meanwhile, authorities of the LNP have confirmed that the US$ 50,000 presented to the police by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has been deposited at a local bank in Monrovia.

President Sirleaf recently presented a check US$50,000.00 to the Police during the celebration of its General Assembly.

According to Police Inspector General Chris Massaquoi, the money will be put into the accounts of all officers at the bank where police officers are usually paid.

The Director of Police said in line with the President's mandate, no commissioned officer will benefit from the President's gesture.

He also maintained that those police officers who abandoned their respective posts and absent without official leave (AWOL) will also not benefit from the Presidents' gesture.

The Police Inspector General said the gesture of the president is laudable as it has furthered increased the spirit of the force in the execution of its mandate.
