He said they have decided to host the party for the children in order to avoid them being scattered around during the festivities so as to keep them in one locality.
The party was held at the hand pump field in Jacob Town adjacent to the St, Francis High School.
He explained that since the children are to be the future leaders of Liberia, there is a dire need to adequately cater to their welfare that will prepare them to become effective, efficient and capable future leaders.
Lt. Col. Smith said that the time has come for all well meaning Liberians to formulate strategies that will guide children to be decent and responsible citizens to be on par with other African countries and the rest of the world.
He said that in order to make the children happier in the society, there is an urgent need for the government to construct play grounds in all of the districts, townships, chiefdoms and cities throughout the country.
Lt./Col. Smith said that when the youth are not happy, they can engage in activities that have the propensity to discredit Liberia in the comity of nations.
He also noted that when the children are happy, they will be in the position to resist those politicians who may want to use them for destruction.
He further explained that when these recreational centers are built, it will enable the young people to feel that they are part of the society.
The former law enforcement officer has appealed to government to allocate US$100M in national budget for the promotion and development of the children.
