Senator Edward B. DagosehGrand Cape Mount County Senator, Edward B. Dagoseh, has written President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf requesting the disbursement of US$1.8 m to the county ahead of this year's Independence celebration.

President Johnson-Sirleaf last year announced that Bomi, Gbarpolu and Grand Cape Mount Counties will jointly host the celebration with Tubmanburg (Bomi's capital) being the venue of the indoor program.

All three counties have already identified development projects for the region with roads being priorities.

Dagoseh indicated the county has earmarked several development projects aimed at improving the livelihood of his people.  He named the rehabilitation of the Madina-Robertsport Highway, Tienii -Sawelor Road and the Porkpa highway. “We will also build clinics in Jayjah and Kileya Towns and electrified the city of Robertsports,” he said.

He mentioned that he has asked President Sirleaf to prevail on the Minister of Finance to pay into the county's coffers the amount to fast track development ahead of the program. He said the amount in question belongs to the county but have not been given since the 2011/2012 Fiscal period.

According to Dagoseh, the MoF is yet to pay into the county's account US$300,000.00 received from the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL) as Social Development Fund for the County. Others include US$750,000.00 from Western Cluster Limited (WCL) in the 2012 /2013 Budget, US$333,000.00 from WCL in the 2011/2012 budget and US$10,000 from the Sime Darby land rental fees.

The Ministry of finance has admitted to receiving the amount and promised to remit said to the account of the county but give no definite time. A communication officer of the Ministry, Jani K. Jallah quoted the Deputy Minister for Budget, Sebastian Moah as saying that 'the amount is in the system and it has to take some time to get processed.'

Sources close to the office of Grand Cape Mount Superintendent, Mohammed Paasewe ,said they were informed by the ministry that the amount have lapsed because the county did not request for the money during the budget year.

Already, Cape Mount has begun the rehabilitation of the streets of Robertsport, the financing of the Momo Toweh Sports Pitch and the provision of financial aid to the Grand cape Mount University Student's Union.
