Three officials of the Liberia United for Sustainable Development (LUSD) have disclosed that plans have been finalized to plant cassava on its 25 acres of farm land located in Kakata, Margibi County.
The leadership of the Independent Mano River Transport Union of Liberia (IMRTUL) has expressed thanks and appreciation to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for accepting and recognizing the IMRTUL operations in the country.
The President of the Fula Business Association of Liberia, Inc. (FBAL), Mr. Bella Diallo has described the entire justice system in Liberia as being weak and partial as it does not favor the rights of nationals from other countries.Mr. Diallo's statement came after the recent alleged brutality meted out against two young Fula men, namely, Ibrahim Jalloh and Alpha Barry, in the township of West Point by some officers of the Liberia National Police LNP, assigned at the West Point police depot.
According to him, the issue of police brutality against peaceful citizens including aliens and other nationals in Liberia has been a normal thing done by the police; while the justice system of the government has always been weak to react to brutalities meted out against foreign nationals.
Speaking to reporters recently in Monrovia, Mr. Diallo indicated that the incident of the police brutalizing his colleagues that occurred recently in the West Point area was not the first, neither the second, adding that the government is yet to address the matter robustly, thus failing to seek the interest of its people in terms of fair justice.
According to reports, the Fula men were accused by a resident of West Point, Miss Quita David of stealing LD$ 5,000, a mobile phone worth US$15.00 and four jean trousers from her. She was said to have invited the police to probe the matter. “During their investigations they resorted to brutalizing the two accused,” he said.
The FBAL President pointed out that in a nation wherein state security continues to brutalize citizens or other persons; there will always be serious problems in such areas.
Mr. Diallo also noted that the act of state security's brutalities against people is a total human rights violation that needs special attention in the country, he said.
According to him, no state security has the right to brutalize anyone, even if that person has committed crimes against the nation, because every nation is governed by law, thus making everyone to live under the scope of the law.
The Fula Business President believes that state security officers are to protect lives and properties, but he thinks if they act contrary to that, they should be dealt with by the national government.
Mr. Diallo further noted that if such situation continues unabated in the Liberian society, especially during this time of the country's emerging democracy, there will always be setbacks in the relations between the citizens and the state security.
Mr. Diallo therefore used the occasion to call on the government to put to rest the act of continuous police brutalities against peaceful citizens and other individuals, adding that if this is done by the government, there would be total unity and harmony.
