Few days after Representative Solomon George of Montserrado County District #7 told the people of Monrovia's slum community, West Point that government has devised a secret plan to demolish the Community, the Commissioner of the West Point Community; Madam Miatta H. Flowers, has described the demolition report as untrue.Addressing reporters at her West Point office yesterday, Commissioner Flowers said that the government of Liberia under the 'dynamic leadership' of Madam Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has no secret plan to demolish West Point as alleged by Representative George.
Commissioner Flowers asserted that the misinformation concerning the demolition has the propensity to create chaos in the community. Madam Flowers is therefore calling on the people of the Township of West Point not to panic as there is no plan like such on government's agenda.
Commissioner Flowers: “I therefore want to inform the entire residents of West Point that such information is untrue and only intended to incite the residents against the Unity Party led government, adding that already some local government officials have already being receiving threats from some residents. In this light, I wish to admonish all residents of West Point not to panic by this misinformation, rather than engage in any demonstration that will tarnish the good reputation of west point.”
She called on citizens to go about their normal businesses and disregard the demolition rumors. Madam Flowers added that if government has any plan of such, the plan will not be done overnight but evolve through negotiations with residents of the township.
It can be recalled that on Sunday February 3, 2013, the Representative of district number 7 in the National Legislature informed residents of West Point in a mass meeting that the government of President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf is secretly planning to mortgage the township to South African and European Companies for investments in resort activities.
