The damaged vehicleSome officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP) have been accused of escaping responsibility after damaging a private vehicle bearing license plate PC 16781.

Over the weekend, according to Mr. Abraham Jones, owner of the damaged vehicle, he was on his way from Bomi county to Monrovia to visit his daughter when his vehicle tyre was dislodged from his car at about 8:PM in the Via Town area on Thursday Night.

He explained that he contacted a mechanic to help him replace the tyre on the vehicle. He said in the process, a patrol police pick-up with license plate he did not recall came from the back and hit his vehicle.

According to Mr. Jones, the mechanic was wounded.  “While I was trying to get the boy from the road, the police vehicle went close to the Gabriel Tucker Bridge and stopped. Some police officers came back to the spot at took the boy in their vehicle and drop him to a nearby drugstore. Thinking that the police are law abiding people, and it is their responsibility to protect lives and properties, they surprisingly escaped the scene of responsibility.

Meanwhile, when contacted the victim who was only identified as T.Boy told the Informer that “it is true I was hit by a police pick-up while working on a vehicle last night. “But I must admit, I cannot remember those who took me to the nearby drugstore or the police pick-up because it was dark,” he said.

When this paper contacted police spokesman Sam Collies, he said it is very hard to comment on the issue only because the owner of the damaged vehicle did not know the number plate of the police patrol vehicle.

This paper also contacted the Chief of Patrol of the Liberia National Police (LNP) Mr. Golfed who promise to meet with the owner of the damaged vehicle to handle the issue, but has never been seen since then.
